'Technical Assistance on Preparation of River Basin Management Plans for 6 Basins' project co-financed by the European Union and Türkiye within the scope of the IPA-2 period of the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance has officially started on September 13, 2021, and the duration of the project is 42 months. The purpose of the Project is to prepare River Basin Management Plans (RBMP), Sectoral Water Allocation Plans (SWAP) and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Reports in the Antalya, Batı Karadeniz, Doğu Karadeniz, Doğu Akdeniz, Kızılırmak and Marmara Basins in line with the European Union Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD) and other sister directives.
One of the most important elements of the basin management process after the Characterization Reports is Significant Water Management Issues. Therefore, within the scope of the Project's River Basin Management Plans for the Marmara, Doğu Akdeniz, and Antalya Basins, Draft Reports on Significant Water Management Issues (SWMI) were prepared. The main objective of SWMI is to identify, define and propose solutions to the river basin's current and foreseeable water management problems. SWMIs are related to analysing issues that prevent or hinder the achievement of SEA environmental objectives and related integrated management objectives within the scope of River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs).
