2ND PROJECT STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING WAS HELD

The 2nd Project Steering Committee Meeting of the Technical Assistance Project on Preparation of River Basin Management Plans for Six Basins, co-financed by the European Union and Türkiye within the scope of the IPA-2 period of the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, was held on 17 May 2022 at Ankara Wyndham Hotel. 

The meeting started with the opening meeting of the Director General for Water Management Mr. Bilal DİKMEN. In his speech, Mr. Dikmen emphasized the importance of the preparation of River Basin Management Plans, which constitute the basis for the integrative management approach on a basin basis in Turkey. Currently, River Basin Management Plans have been completed in 11 basins, and studies continue in 7 basins. In addition, Sectoral Water Allocation Plans are being prepared in order to ensure the allocation of water resources at the basin and sub-basin level, plan the future and to meet the water needs of each sector in a fair, efficient and sustainable manner. Sectoral Water Allocation Plans have already been prepared in 6 basins and studies continue in 11 basins. 

After Mr. DİKMEN, Team Leader Mr. Jaroslav SLOBODNIK delivered the technical presentation of the Project.In his presentation, Mr. Slobodnik gave a detailed explanation on the progress of the project in the second quarter, data collection activities: gaps and the way forward. Mr. Slobodnik, thanks to the activities and meetings held in the second quarter of the project, and the second quarter's visits by the project team of especially local institutions, the data obtained from central and local institutions, the expert data collection teams to support the data collection studies, and the data obtained from the institutions in 6 Basins, and stakeholder consultation meetings with local stakeholders, and stated that he concentrated on data collection and analysis.It was mentioned that ROM, Turkey Phase III; the IPA Projects Monitoring – Remote ROM Evaluation meetings would take place, and the reports planned to be presented and the meetings to be held were expressed.

After the presentation of Mr. Slobodnik, a question-and-answer session was held, and the meeting was concluded with the closing speech of Mr. Dikmen.

The 2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the project was held with the wide participation of more than 150 representatives from central institutions working on water management, local institutions in 6 basins and non-governmental organizations.
