Within the scope of the 'Technical Assistance on Preparation of River Basin Management Plans for 6 Basins' project co-financed by the European Union and Türkiye within the scope of the IPA-2 period of the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, Activity 2.2 - Marmara Basin Public Participation Meeting on Significant Water Management Issues was held on 14 July 2023 at Istanbul Point Hotel. A total of 58 people attended the meeting, including Deputy Governor of Istanbul Mr Günay ÖZTÜRK, Head of Basin Management Department of General Directorate of Water Management Mr Taner KİMENÇE, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Contract Manager Ms Nurnisa ELÇİN, representatives of General Directorate of Water Management, representatives of stakeholder institutions and organizations in the basin, Consortium managers and technical assistance team.
Before the Public Participation Meeting on Significant Water Management Issues, representatives of the General Directorate of Water Management organized a meeting with the Istanbul Basin Management Committee led by Ms Afire SEVER, Director General of Water Management.
The Public Participation meeting started with the opening speeches of Mr Taner KİMENÇE, Head of the Basin Management Department of the General Directorate of Water Management. It continued with the presentations of Ms Sara PELEGRIN MC CARTHY, Acting Team Leader and Ms Emine GİRGİN, Marmara Basin Responsible. The current status of the project, Water Framework Directive requirements, Marmara Basin Characterization Report and significant water management issues in the basin were shared with the participants and ideas were exchanged. The Public Participation Meeting on Significant Water Management Issues in the Marmara Basin ended after the opinions and comments of the participants were received.
