Within the scope of the 'Technical Assistance on Preparation of River Basin Management Plans for 6 Basins' project co-financed by the European Union and Türkiye within the scope of the IPA-2 period of the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, Activity 2.2 - Doğu Akdeniz Basin Public Participation Meeting on Important Water Management Issues was held on 17 July 2023 at Mersin Divan Hotel. Governor of Mersin Mr Ali Hamza PEHLİVAN, DSI 6th Regional Director Mr Ahmet Ersin GÖKÇE, Deputy Director General of Water Management Dr Yakup KARAASLAN, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Contract Manager Ms Nurnisa ELÇİN, representatives of the General Directorate of Water Management, representatives of stakeholder institutions and organizations in the basin, managers of the Consortium and the technical assistance team participated in the meeting. 63 people attended the meeting.
Before the Public Participation Meeting on Significant Water Management Issues, representatives of the General Directorate of Water Management organized a meeting with the Mersin Basin Management Committee with the participation of Deputy Governor of Mersin Mr Kadir OKATAN, Deputy Governor of Karaman Mr Fatih EROĞLU and the Deputy Director General of Water Management Dr Yakup KARAASLAN.
The Public Participation meeting started with the opening speeches of the Governor of Mersin Mr Ali Hamza PEHLİVAN, DSI 6th Regional Director Mr Ahmet Ersin GÖKÇE, and Deputy Director General of Water Management Dr. Yakup KARAASLAN. The meeting continued with presentations by Acting Team Leader Ms Sara PELEGRIN MC CARTHY, and Doğu Akdeniz Basin Responsible Ms Oytun Arıkan. The current status of the project, Water Framework Directive requirements, Doğu Akdeniz Basin Characterization Report and significant water management issues in the basin were shared with the participants and ideas were exchanged. The Public Participation Meeting on Significant Water Management Issues in the Doğu Akdeniz Basin ended after the views and comments of the participants were received.
